John holds a masters degree in Transpersonal Psychology and is presently serving as a hospital chaplain. He was ordained in 1995 and completed clinical pastoral education with Allina Health Systems in the Twin Cities. He has completed fellowships in palliative care and clinical ethics, also completing a bioethics course offered by Harvard Medical School's Center for Bioethics.

He has also completed the two year Sacred Art of Living and Dying International Education Series offered by the Sacred Art of Living Center for Spiritual Formation in Bend, Oregon.

His masters thesis investigated gestational consciousness, near death experiences (NDEs) and non-ordinary states of consciousness. He has traveled throughout the sacred sites of India, bathed in the Ganges, studied with the Tibetan community in Dharmsala. John specializes in grief, end-of-life, death/dying, and the afterlife. He has been helping people with their grief and existential curiosity and/or vexation for many years. ​
